Official summary

Note: this summary has been translated by a fan, and is therefore unofficial.

It's a bad time for Aelita: her nightmares have returned and she feels ignored by Jeremy. She's becoming impatient about finally eliminating XANA. Luckily, Jeremy and Laura have updated the virus which should now be able to destroy Ikonov's Supercomputer. But when our heroes organise what was meant to be their final mission, difficulties arise. Only Aelita insists on continuing, despite the obstacles on the road for the Lyoko Warriors...

Detailed summary

Aelita’s nightmares have returned. She sees her mother calling her in her dreams. Disturbed by her visions, she can’t even find comfort with Jeremy, focused on creating the virus that will destroy Tyron’s Supcomputer…working with Laura on the project in his room…

The next day at breakfast, the heroes discuss the plan. The virus is ready but Jeremy and Laura want to improve on it to render it undetectable. Pressed to get it over with, Aelita encourages them to forget about the last upgrade and use the virus that afternoon. Jeremy complies.

It’s high jump practice in PE. Ulrich sprains his ankle and Odd is given two hours of detention for calling Jim names a little too indiscreetly. Jeremy is frustrated: already two fighters unavailable for the Cortex mission! Aelita will hear nothing of it: the mission is not aborted.

Aelita, Yumi and William travel across the Network onboard the Skid. They’re immediately faced with a nasty surprise: Mantas are blocking their way! Their presence in the Network is another sign of XANA’s increase in power. The heroes pulverise their enemies and arrive at the Cortex. Unfortunately, as soon as he disembarks, William is surprised by a Blok and sent back to Earth.
Yumi destroys the Blok but there are now only two Lyoko Warriors. Jeremy proposes they abort the mission…and Aelita refuses again! Laura is exasperated. The two virtual girls travel across the Cortex in the Megapod… Time for Yumi to talk to Aelita about her relationship with Jeremy…and time for Aelita to reveal everything to everyone how she feels about him.

At Kadic, Odd finishes his detention and encourages Ulrich to come with him to the factory.

In the Cortex, the entrance to the Core is strongly protected. Yumi opens the passage: she rams the Megapod into the Krabes. In the pileup that follows, the Krabes are defeated and the vehicle falls into the void. Jeremy devirtualises the Japanese girl before she falls into the Digital Sea.

Aelita enters the Core alone.
She connects to the interface without being spotted and Jeremy starts to send her the data for the virus. During this, a window opens showing Tyron’s workspace. Aelita spies on him through the webcam feed without him noticing. Aelita then becomes stupefied when she sees her missing mother, Anthea, enter the room and sit down to work beside Tyron…Aelita is frozen…
Jeremy interrupts the virus’ transmission: Tyron’s Supercomputer is now the only link they have to Aelita’s mother. They can’t destroy it. The entire group agrees.
Aelita, shocked and taken aback by her discovery, wants to launch the virus anyway. However, Tyron notices the webcam. He cuts it off and sends Ninjas in. Jeremy devirtualises Aelita against her will.

When she returns to the lab, the heroes promise to solve this new mystery.

Memo

- Attack: None.
- Virtualisations: Yumi/William/Aelita
- Devirtualisations: William (by a Blok); Yumi/Aelita (by Jeremy)
- Visited Sectors: Sector Five; the Cortex
- Enemies met: Mantas (2); Blok (1); Krabes (3); Ninjas (6);

- Source codes remaining: Not revealed
- XANA's power: 88%

- Anthea Hopper, Aelita's mother, is still alive and working with Tyron.
- The virus to destroy Tyron's Supercomputer is ready. The heroes don't launch it yet however as they'd lose the only link Aelita has with her mother. They prioritise solving the mystery of her presence with Tyron.

Trivia

About the characters

- First appearance of the real Anthea Hopper in present day in the entire series and not in a flashback, dream, or as a spectre.
- Only allusion to Kiwi and where he is in Evolution.
- Second time Yumi drives the Megapod and second time it falls into the Digital Sea.
- Aelita starts having nightmares about her mother again, as she did in the original series.

About the series

- French title: Obstination

- XANA's power level is at 88%, meaning it has gained 3% more power since episode 15 “The Codeless”. No spectre attack has been launched since that episode.
- First appearance of Mantas in the Digital Sea, a sign of XANA's power increase.
- First appearance of Bloks in the Cortex.
- A lot of fans recognised the obvious mark of its writer in this episode: Bruno Regeste, the old writing director from season 4. In fact, this episode included an enormous amount of allusions to Code Lyoko: what happened to Kiwi, Jim's bombastic speech about the high jump, William's reply to the fact that he “turns to hope”, the return of Aelita's nightmares, Mantas entering the Digital Sea after leaving Sector Five in the original series…

About references

Odd: “When I'm not there, it's Waterloo guys!”
Waterloo is a military defeat of Napoleon against the combined armies of other European countries. It's the ultimate defeat that took Napoleon out of power.
In current French language, the expression Waterloo is used to describe a debacle that ends in a big mess!

Quotes

Note: these quotes have been translated by a fan, and are therefore unofficial.

Jeremy (after Aelita closes the door): Did somebody knock?
Laura: No.

Odd (stroking a kiwifruit): I didn't abandon him… I just left him with my sisters…
Yumi: Hey, what are you talking about?
William: Kiwi, Odd's dog.

Yumi: Hey Aelita, are you with us?
Aelita: Huh? Oh… No, I didn't sleep well. I had nightmares again.
Jeremy: Why didn't you tell me?
Aelita: You were busy this time with the virus and all…

Odd: I'm sure Big Jim will jump very high.
Jim: Stern! Instead of laughing at your classmates, show us more if you're up to it.

Jim: Let me see that…
(Ulrich winces in pain)
Jim: Aha! There you go, your ankle's sprained. The problem Stern, is that you're lacking concentration and precision.

Ulrich: How would I get to the Cortex? By hopping?
Odd: Pfff! This sucks. All because of Big Jim. High jump… (he lets Ulrich's foot drop)
Ulrich: Oww!
Odd: Oh, sorry!
Jim: Something to say, Della Robbia? If you want to teach a big monkey new tricks, Big Jim won't be the last person to give you two hours of detention. Poof. This afternoon. After class.

Yumi: Aelita? Is everything between you and Jeremy ok?
Aelita: Huh? Yes, of course. Why?
Yumi: I don’t know…right now things feel a little tense between you two. Did you fight?
Aelita: No, it’s…it’s just that he’s very busy, that’s why we’re not together often. But well…you need to understand that he’s under pressure.
Yumi: You can tell me the truth. Do you want to be with him?
Aelita: Uh…Yumi…I lost my parents. You’re my only family. But Jeremy…Jeremy’s special. He’s the one who turned the Supercomputer back on…he rematerialised me and he’s always looked after me. He saved my life. No matter what happens I will always trust him. Always.

William: Do two people really have to inject the virus in XANA?
Laura: What are you thinking of?
William: Have you ever played bowling?

Jeremy: What you want most in the world is to find your mother again. You're ready to risk your life for that, as you've already done. If we destroy the Cortex, you'll never see her again. We can't let that sacrifice happen. That's why we've made this decision in your place.

Entries in the Lyoko TNV

Yumi: Aelita's really on edge. I hope we're not taking inconsiderate risks…

William: Is it me or is Aelita really not herself today?

Aelita: What's certain is that Laura wasn't the one who piloted the Skid all the way here without crashing.

Yumi: I've already told him to stop showing off!!!

Aelita: Daddy… I'm going to put an end to that traitorous Tyron's works…I promise you.

Aelita: Now it's between you and me, Tyron…

Aelita: Mummy… Don't tell me that you betrayed Daddy too? …I can't believe it…

Aelita: It's time to put an end to this nightmare…
